Dickinson Family {Belgium}

What are the chances that I will photograph two families named Dickinson in just one year?  Rob and Katie also lived in Italy while we were there, but near Lake Como instead of in the Veneto.  I was thrilled to meet Katie in Rome and realized immediately that I had made a fast friend.  We were so lucky to move at the same time from Rome to Belgium and since then have been invited to many events allowing us to experience wonderful British traditions.  I can’t even tell you how excited Steve is to be invited over for Christmas dinner of Beef Wellington and Christmas crackers.  I feel like I am in a Harry Potter novel (speaking of which, Tilly and I have the same taste in books and I am so lucky that a pre-teen will share books with me).  Molly is adorable and everything that comes out of her mouth I want to record for posterity.  I loved this shoot!

Steve + Erika {2015}

Another year, and another Christmas card!  This year was the first year I tried to take my own photo.  Whew!  Usually I know a few people in the photo industry where we live so I can hire a great photographer for our photo.  This year I set up a tripod facing the front door and forced Steve outside for a few minutes to get the shoot done.  I probably should have had a grooming appointment for Siggy beforehand….

Which one do you like the best?

The Weems Family

Finally!  What I was waiting for….. my first shoot here in Belgium!  It’s always hard to move and start anew with a new clients, and I was thrilled that Beth and Max asked me to do a shoot right away.  They love the outdoors and loved the fall.  What gorgeous colors and light!  I am absolutely in love with the light in Belgium.  Being this far north means that the light often comes at a different angle than down south in Italy.  What a joy!  The kids were good sports and we had a great morning together playing in the leaves.  Thanks, Weems Family, for getting me off on the right foot in a new country!

Annika & Devin {One Year}

My gorgeous twin niece and nephew turned one at the end of August and I was lucky enough to be there to celebrate with the family.  I haven’t been back to Iowa since my nephew Dane was born almost three and a half years ago so this was a real treat!  In between going to the Iowa State Fair and getting all my Target shopping done, we were lucky enough to carve out some time to do this photo shoot.  I have to admit, the pressure is high to get nice photos for family since I know that they won’t ever complain about them.  And, to add to the worry, the lighting was harsh shooting in mid afternoon in the middle of summer and the twins refused a nap that day.  After Steve and I went scouting for locations near my mom’s house and everyone was dressed, smiles were everywhere and I am so happy at how the photos turned out.  In fact, as I write this, the canvases of the kids arrived and are sitting in my car waiting to be hung in the dining room.  Next time we will do a bit more planning, but I love these images!2015-10-26_00012015-10-26_00022015-10-26_00032015-10-26_00042015-10-26_00052015-10-26_00062015-10-26_00072015-10-26_00082015-10-26_0009

Anielka + Michael {Asolo}

I love Asolo!  If you haven’t been to this gorgeous hilltop town, plan to immediately.  And I was so excited when Anielka suggested it.  It was the perfect location for Michael and Anielka since it was right between their work locations (an hour away for both).  They wanted some lovely photos of Italian architecture and some vineyards.  Aren’t they just gorgeous?
